It’s often the smallest things that make the biggest difference. A moment of dignity. A piece of equipment that restores independence. A splash of colour that calms anxious minds. That’s exactly why our Patients’ Fund exists, to support simple but powerful ideas that make time in hospital a little easier and a lot more human.
Twice a year staff are able to submit ideas to the Charity that they believe will make a difference to their patients’ experience at the hospital. We’re delighted that we will be funding an inspiring range of projects created by staff who see first-hand what patients really need.
This round will fund:
- Funding for 180 hydrobubble devices, designed to make children’s physiotherapy routine more fun and engaging. These devices were invented by NHS nurses: Innovative children’s device invented by NHS nurses to help with lung conditions now available …
- Building on the positive impact of the Sara Stedy (a sit-to-stand transfer aid) previously funded at Harefield Hospital, we are expanding their provision to support even more patients and staff at Harefield Hospital this year.
- To replace the 15- year-old therapy bike in the Cardiac Rehab gym at Harefield hospital with a specialist therapy bike for patients who have low mobility.
- Funding artwork, co-designed with staff and patients to reduce dizziness during treadmill tests in Exercise Testing rooms at Royal Brompton Hospital
- To purchase a RAZ Shower chair for patients within AICU to help with showing and toileting when standing balance is a challenge
From children’s physiotherapy to cardiac rehab, from mobility support to calming clinical spaces, this is a truly remarkable range of projects, each one focused on improving everyday patient experience in practical, thoughtful ways.
Esther, Strategy and Impact Lead, said:
“It’s wonderful to see such a variety of projects awarded through our Patients’ Fund, and the creative ways staff are finding to improve hospital life. It’s a real pleasure to support colleagues who want to go the extra mile to give patients the very best care.”
Supported entirely by donations, the Patients’ Fund pays for the thoughtful extras that fall outside NHS core funding. These are the things that help hospital feel less clinical and more compassionate, especially during long or difficult stays.
The impact is real. The need is real. And the difference you can make is real too.
We can only fund these projects with your help. Even small donations add up to meaningful change for patients and their families, whether that’s restoring independence, reducing stress, or bringing moments of comfort when they’re needed most.
